Sisodia holds review meeting for Delhi Sports University

New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia reviewed the progress of the Delhi Sports University, along with other officials.

Speaking during the meeting, Sisodia said, “Through Delhi Sports University, our vision is to train and prepare players who shall bring home to India 50 gold medals from the Olympics. The Delhi Sports University shall make India proud in the field of sports, globally. The University will have world-class facilities and provide exceptional training to budding sportspersons. It shall nurture players to showcase India’s sporting potential at international tournaments and bring umpteen medals to the country.”

Sisodia  said, “The Delhi Sports University shall be a unique institution in the world of sports, and shall confer degrees up to the PhD level. Till now, irrespective of the accolades they win in sports, sportspersons need to choose another discipline to get an academic degree. Otherwise, applying for a job becomes difficult. Now, sportspersons will not need a degree in any other discipline. They shall be conferred degrees based on their sporting performance. A team of the university shall decide on the course structures, after due consideration of various sports.”

It is worth noting that the objective of establishing such a sports university is to provide opportunities for world-class training, research, and academics in health, wellbeing and sports. The Delhi Government is committed to making sports training and education multi-dimensional so that sportspersons have varied employment opportunities. Along with popularising different kinds of sports, the Delhi Sports University shall also provide a boost to people’s health and wellbeing.
